He also took acting classes at Mumbai Film School, an acting school based in Indore. His education and training therefore included both formal studies in his home city and classes focused on performance.
Before pursuing television and modeling, Jurel played cricket. He began pursuing the sport in 2018 and is described as a former state-level cricketer. His cricket record includes “Player of the Match” and “Best Batter” awards in 2022. Those achievements came before the expansion of his entertainment work, and help explain why cricket appears among the early milestones in accounts of his career.
Samarth Jurel’s Career Beginnings
Samarth Jurel’s entertainment work included modeling and acting in television series. His early screen credits include Prem Bandhan, Anupamaa and Taftish, before his work in Udaariyaan and a lead part in Maitree. Modeling is described as the starting point of his entertainment career, with 2019 given as the year he began that work. His early acting credits connect him to several Hindi television productions, although the character names for those appearances are not specified here.
Prem Bandhan was a Hindi television drama shown on Dangal TV, while Anupamaa is a Hindi family drama broadcast on Star Plus. Taftish is also among the titles listed in his acting work. These credits represent different projects rather than a single continuing character or story. His exact role is identified more clearly in Maitree, where he played Harsh Tiwari.
His work also extended into reality television with MTV Splitsvilla 14, the fourteenth season of MTV’s dating-competition series. He later entered Bigg Boss 17 as a wildcard contestant in October 2023. The two formats placed him in unscripted competition settings, distinct from the scripted roles that had formed his television acting work.
Rise to Fame
Jurel became widely associated with television through Udaariyaan and Maitree. In the 2023 series Maitree, he played Harsh Tiwari in a lead role. Udaariyaan, a Colors TV production, is another key title in his acting career; his character in the series was Nikhil Kapoor. These scripted roles gave viewers two identifiable characters to associate with his screen work.
His reality-TV visibility grew when he joined the seventeenth season of Bigg Boss as a wildcard entrant. The season began on October 15, 2023, and concluded with its grand finale on January 28, 2024. Jurel was evicted in January 2024 and finished ninth in the competition. His entry partway through the season made him a later addition to the house rather than one of the original contestants.
Major Work
Jurel’s television credits include Prem Bandhan, Anupamaa, Taftish, Udaariyaan and Maitree. His best-defined scripted role in the career details is Harsh Tiwari in Maitree. In Udaariyaan, he played Nikhil Kapoor. The earlier titles broaden his list of screen appearances, while the named roles make clear where he took on specific characters.
He also appeared as a contestant in MTV Splitsvilla 14 and entered Bigg Boss 17 as a wildcard contestant. Both shows put him on screen as himself within a competition format rather than as a scripted character. Beyond television, Jurel is a former model and has a background in state-level cricket. These activities form the main outline of his public career across sport, modeling, scripted acting and reality television.

In July 2026, it was also reported that Jurel had joined MTV’s Hustle 5 – Apna Homeground as its new host. The program is a rap competition series, and his announced position put him in a hosting role rather than a contestant role. That month, he also commented on a birthday challenge from Bharti Singh as Laughter Chefs 3 wrapped up. Laughter Chefs is a cooking-comedy reality program on Colors TV, with Singh as its host; the reported comments concerned the birthday challenge and the season’s conclusion.

Social Media Presence
Jurel’s verified Instagram account, @samarthjurel, had about 2.3 million followers as of October 2026. The account identifies him as an actor. It provides a public-facing space connected with his television work and entertainment career.
About Bigg Boss 17
Bigg Boss 17 was the seventeenth season of the Hindi reality series, broadcast on Colors TV and streamed on JioCinema. It premiered on October 15, 2023, with Salman Khan as host. The season used the theme “Dil, Dimaag, and Dum,” organizing contestants around ideas of heart, mind and strength. The familiar Bigg Boss format placed contestants together in a house, where their interactions, tasks and decisions became the focus of the program.
Jurel joined the season as a wildcard contestant in October 2023. A wildcard entrant arrives after the season has started, adding a new participant to the existing group. In this role, he took part in the house’s ongoing competition and appeared as himself, rather than playing a fictional character. His time on the program was one of his most prominent reality-TV appearances.
The house design drew on the idea of a European-style neighbourhood. Its three bedrooms were presented as separate houses, giving the set distinct spaces linked to the season’s broader concept. The show concluded with a grand finale on January 28, 2024. Munawar Faruqui won, and Abhishek Kumar finished as runner-up. Jurel was evicted earlier in January and placed ninth. His appearance connected the scripted television actor with a large ensemble reality competition, and gave audiences a view of him outside his roles in series such as Udaariyaan and Maitree.
About Maitree
Maitree is one of the scripted television projects most closely associated with Jurel. The Hindi drama aired on Zee TV in 2023 and was produced by Sunshine Productions. Its story centres on the friendship between Maitree and Nandini, whose lives and relationships form the foundation of the series. The show’s central theme is reflected in its title, which means friendship, while its continuing episodes develop the characters and the changes in their relationships.
Samarth Jurel played Harsh Tiwari, a lead role in the series. This is among the clearest character credits in his television career: unlike the unscripted competition appearances where he appeared as himself, Maitree gave him a named fictional part within a continuing drama. The role placed him in a scripted ensemble and made the series an important credit alongside Udaariyaan.
Maitree followed appearances in Prem Bandhan, Anupamaa, Taftish and Udaariyaan. Those titles show the range of television projects attached to his acting work, though Harsh Tiwari is the character specifically identified in connection with Maitree. The series is also a useful marker in his career timeline: it was released in 2023, the same year he later joined Bigg Boss 17 as a wildcard entrant. Together, the drama and reality show represent two different kinds of television work in a particularly active period of his career.
About Udaariyaan
Udaariyaan is one of the television series most often connected with Jurel’s career. The Hindi drama airs on Colors TV and was created by actors and producers Sargun Mehta and Ravi Dubey through Dreamiyata Entertainment. Set around relationships, family life and personal ambitions, it follows intersecting lives in Punjab. The continuing serial format allowed its story and cast to develop over time, and it became a significant scripted title in Jurel’s list of television work.
Jurel played Nikhil Kapoor in the series. His credit is associated with 2022, the year given for his television debut in the show. The character role is a more specific marker than his earlier listed appearances in Prem Bandhan, Anupamaa and Taftish, for which no character names are provided here. Udaariyaan therefore represents an important step in the progression of his screen credits.
His work on the series preceded his 2023 lead role as Harsh Tiwari in Maitree and his later wildcard appearance on Bigg Boss 17. These projects placed him in contrasting television settings: Udaariyaan and Maitree are scripted dramas, while Bigg Boss follows contestants in a reality competition. Alongside MTV Splitsvilla 14, those appearances brought his television career beyond scripted acting. The combination of a named serial role and reality-show participation forms a central part of his public profile.
